Choosing the Right Cinnamon Roll Size: A Big Deal!

When it comes to making these delectable cinnamon roll waffles, you have a choice that can subtly change your breakfast experience: regular-sized or jumbo-sized canned cinnamon rolls. Both varieties will work beautifully, so the best choice ultimately depends on your waffle maker’s capacity and your personal preference. The key is to select the size that fits most comfortably and cooks most evenly in your specific waffle iron.

I often lean towards the smaller, regular-sized cinnamon rolls because they’re incredibly easy to serve, especially when feeding a crowd. Their more manageable size makes them perfect for little hands and allows for effortless devouring without feeling overly indulgent. They are also ideal for creating a platter of varied breakfast items. However, my kids, like many, believe that bigger is always better! They consistently vote for the jumbo rolls, which yield a much larger, more substantial waffle. These larger waffles are wonderfully satisfying and create a truly grand breakfast statement, perfect for those mornings when you want to treat yourself to something extra special. Regardless of the size you choose, the outcome is always a delicious, golden-crisp cinnamon roll waffle ready for a sweet drizzle of icing.

What Essential Tools & Ingredients Do I Need?

Preparing these incredibly easy and delicious Canned Cinnamon Roll Waffles requires just a few basic kitchen items. The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity, making it accessible for even the most novice cooks. Here’s a detailed look at everything you’ll need to get started on your journey to breakfast perfection:

  • Canned cinnamon rolls with icing (8 count): This is the star ingredient for smaller, more manageable waffles. The pre-packaged dough and icing make preparation incredibly quick and convenient.
  • OR canned jumbo cinnamon rolls with icing (5 count): Opt for these if you prefer larger, more substantial waffles. They offer the same great flavor but in a grander size.
  • Waffle iron: The essential appliance! Any standard waffle iron, whether it makes Belgian-style or classic thin waffles, will work. Ensure it’s clean and in good working order before you begin.
  • Non-stick cooking spray: Crucial for preventing the sticky cinnamon roll dough from adhering to your waffle iron. A light, even coating ensures easy removal and perfectly shaped waffles every time.
  • Baking sheet: Useful for holding the cooked waffles warm in the oven while you prepare the rest of the batch, ensuring every waffle is served hot and fresh.

That’s it! With these minimal ingredients and tools, you’re just minutes away from creating a delightful breakfast or brunch that tastes far more complex than it actually is to make. This recipe is a testament to how simple ingredients can yield extraordinary results.

Simple Steps to Perfectly Crisp Canned Cinnamon Roll Waffles

Making these delightful cinnamon roll waffles is incredibly straightforward, perfect for a quick breakfast or a fun weekend activity. Follow these easy steps to achieve perfectly golden and deliciously soft waffles every time:

  • **Step 1: Prepare Your Waffle Maker.** Begin by preheating your waffle maker to a medium setting. This allows the iron to reach the ideal temperature for even cooking and a beautifully crisp finish. A medium heat setting prevents burning while ensuring the dough cooks all the way through.
  • **Step 2: Ensure Non-Stick Surface.** Once preheated, generously spray both the top and bottom plates of your waffle maker with non-stick cooking spray. This crucial step prevents the sticky cinnamon roll dough from adhering to the iron, ensuring easy removal and a clean waffle.
  • **Step 3: Position the Cinnamon Rolls.** Carefully place one cinnamon roll in each square or circle section of your waffle maker. The number of rolls you can cook at once will depend on the size and design of your specific appliance.

NOTE: Waffle makers vary significantly. For example, one of my waffle irons features two large square sections, allowing me to cook two waffles simultaneously. My other waffle maker, however, has a single large circular cooking surface, meaning I can only prepare one at a time. Adjust accordingly for your setup.

  • **Step 4: Gently Press and Cook.** Close the lid of your waffle maker and press down gently to slightly flatten the cinnamon roll dough. Avoid pressing too hard, as this can squeeze out too much dough or create uneven thickness.
  • **Step 5: Achieve Golden Perfection.** Allow the cinnamon rolls to cook for approximately 2-3 minutes, or until they achieve a beautiful golden-brown color and are cooked thoroughly. The exact time may vary based on your waffle iron and desired crispiness. The finished waffles should have a wonderfully crisp exterior while remaining soft and warm in the center.

  • **Step 6: Keep Warm (Optional).** If you are cooking multiple batches or serving a crowd, preheat your oven to 200°F (95°C). As each batch of cinnamon roll waffles finishes cooking, transfer them to a baking sheet and place them in the warm oven. This keeps them perfectly hot and ready to serve while you finish the remaining rolls.

  • **Step 7: Drizzle and Serve.** Once all your cinnamon roll waffles are cooked and ready, it’s time for the final, most satisfying touch. Take the reserved icing that came with the canned cinnamon rolls and generously drizzle it over each warm waffle. The heat from the waffle will slightly melt the icing, creating a beautiful, sweet glaze that truly elevates the dish. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Crafting Jumbo Cinnamon Roll Waffles: A Grand Affair

If you prefer a more substantial and indulgent breakfast experience, using jumbo-sized cinnamon rolls to make waffles is the way to go. The process remains remarkably similar to preparing the regular-sized version, ensuring the same ease and delicious results. The primary difference lies in the yield and the sheer size of the final product, which offers a satisfyingly larger portion of golden, crispy goodness.

Simply follow the exact same cooking directions as outlined for the standard cinnamon roll waffles. You’ll still preheat your waffle maker to medium, spray it generously with non-stick spray, and then carefully place a jumbo cinnamon roll onto each section. Press the lid down gently and cook until golden brown and cooked through, typically 2-3 minutes. The only notable distinction is that a can of jumbo-sized or “Grands!” cinnamon rolls will typically yield 5 larger waffles per can, as opposed to the 8 smaller waffles you get from a regular-sized can. These jumbo waffles are perfect for those who truly want to savor every bite of this delightful breakfast hybrid, offering a thicker and more decadent texture with every glorious mouthful.

How to make Jumbo Canned Cinnamon Roll Waffles

Serving & Storing Your Delicious Cinnamon Roll Waffles

These Canned Cinnamon Roll Waffles are best enjoyed fresh off the waffle iron, when they are at their crispiest and warmest. However, they are also excellent for make-ahead breakfasts or meal prepping, thanks to their easy storage and reheating options. Here’s how to ensure your waffles remain delicious for days or even weeks:

Storage: To store either iced or un-iced cinnamon roll waffles, allow them to cool completely to room temperature. Then, place them in an airtight container or a resealable plastic baggie. They will keep perfectly in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. This makes them a fantastic option for grab-and-go breakfasts throughout the week.

To Freeze: For longer storage, cinnamon roll waffles freeze exceptionally well. First, ensure the iced or un-iced waffles have cooled completely. For best results and to prevent sticking, you can flash freeze them in a single layer on a baking sheet for about 30 minutes before transferring. Then, place them in a freezer-safe container or individually wrap them in freezer-safe baggies. This method helps maintain their quality and prevents freezer burn. Store in the freezer for up to two months, ready for a quick and easy breakfast anytime.

To Reheat: When you’re ready to enjoy your stored waffles, there are several convenient reheating methods:

  • **Microwave:** For a quick reheat, place iced or un-iced waffles in a single layer on a microwave-safe plate. Microwave for approximately 20 seconds if refrigerated, or about 30 seconds if frozen, until heated through. Be mindful not to overheat, as this can make them tough.
  • **Oven:** To reheat un-iced waffles, place them in a single layer on a baking sheet in an oven preheated to 300°F (150°C) for about 5 minutes. If reheating from frozen, it will take approximately 10 minutes, or until they are thoroughly heated and slightly crisp.
  • **Toaster (My Favorite!):** For un-iced waffles, the toaster is my absolute favorite method! Simply pop them into your toaster or toaster oven and toast until they are slightly crisp on the outside and wonderfully heated through. This method brings back that delightful crunch. Once reheated, you can drizzle them with a simple icing, smear them with your favorite jam, or add a dollop of whipped cream and fresh fruit for an extra special touch.

Canned Cinnamon Roll Waffles are crisp on the outside, soft and hot in the middle and covered in a sweet glaze. All you need are store bought cinnamon rolls and a waffle maker to create this sweet breakfast treat!

Ingredients

  • 1 (12.4 ounce) can cinnamon rolls with icing (8 count) – for smaller waffles

OR

  • 1 (17.5 ounce) can jumbo cinnamon rolls with icing (5 count) – for larger waffles

Instructions

  1. Heat your waffle maker to medium.
  2. Spray the waffle maker on both sides with non-stick cooking spray.
  3. Place a cinnamon roll in each square or circle of the waffler maker. This will, depend on how large and how many waffles your waffle maker holds. 4. Close the waffle make and press down to flatten the cinnamon roll slightly.
  5. Allow the cinnamon rolls to cook until golden brown and cooked all the way through, about 2-3 minutes. The rolls should be crisp on the outside and soft in the center.

  7. When ready to serve, drizzle the reserved cinnamon roll icing over each cinnamon roll waffle.
