Crafting the Ultimate Easy Christmas Snack Board for Kids

If you’re searching for an engaging and absolutely delicious holiday activity, look no further than this delightful Christmas Tree Snack Board. Following the success of our beloved Holly Jolly Kid’s Snack Board, we’re thrilled to present another fantastic festive creation that’s perfect for the holiday season. Our family had an absolute blast assembling and then devouring this adorably delicious **Kids’ Christmas Tree Snack Board** while enjoying our favorite Christmas movies. It’s more than just food; it’s a hands-on experience that encourages creativity and provides a wholesome snacking option for everyone. The beauty of this board lies in its incredible simplicity, utilizing common pantry staples and fridge essentials that kids already love.

One of the most appealing aspects of this project is how easily children can take the lead. My own crew, with just a little guidance, managed to build this entire masterpiece largely by themselves. Their excitement was palpable as they watched their edible Christmas tree come to life, and the pride they felt in their tasty creation was truly heartwarming. This interactive approach not only makes the snack board preparation enjoyable but also fosters a sense of accomplishment in young chefs. The flexibility in ingredient choices means you can tailor it to your family’s preferences and dietary needs, ensuring everyone finds something to savor. For those curious about the presentation, we designed this festive board on our sturdy and aesthetically pleasing 18″ x 12″ walnut wood board, which provides ample space for all the delightful components.

  • Babybel cheese rounds: These individual cheese portions are perfect for crafting our adorable holiday characters, offering a creamy, mild flavor that kids adore.
  • Mini chocolate chips: Essential for adding cute eyes and buttons to our cheesy friends.
  • Pretzel twists: These versatile snacks serve dual purposes – as crunchy antlers for Rudolph and whimsical arms for our snowman.
  • Pull & Peel Twizzlers: A fun, edible craft supply for creating festive smiles and colorful snowman scarves.
  • Red M&M’s: The quintessential touch for Rudolph’s bright red nose, adding a pop of color and sweetness.
  • Mini marshmallows: Perfect for Santa’s fluffy beard and the snowy white trim on his hat.
  • Pretzel dipping sticks: These long, sturdy pretzels form the rustic trunk of our edible Christmas tree.
  • Broccoli florets: Vibrant green broccoli adds a healthy, fresh layer to our tree, mimicking lush foliage.
  • Colby jack cheese cubes: Cubes of cheese provide another delicious layer and a contrasting color in our edible tree structure.
  • Pepperoni slices: Small, round pepperoni slices offer a savory, meaty layer that adds a delightful flavor dimension.
  • Pita triangle crackers: These crackers are perfect for forming the pointed top of our Christmas tree, offering a crisp texture.
  • Ranch dressing: A creamy, savory dip that acts as the “star” of our tree, and a delightful accompaniment for veggies and crackers.
  • White cheddar cracker cuts: Cut into festive stars with a mini star cutter, these add a decorative and cheesy touch.
  • Goldfish tree and stocking holiday shapes: These whimsical crackers are ideal for filling in gaps and adding extra festive flair around the board.
  • Popcorn: The perfect ingredient to simulate soft, fluffy “snow” at the base of your Christmas tree.
  • 18″ x 12″ walnut wood board: The sturdy foundation for your festive culinary masterpiece.

Step-by-Step Guide: How to Assemble a Kids’ Christmas Tree Snack Board

Bringing this festive snack board to life is a simple and enjoyable process, perfect for little hands to help with. We’ll start by crafting our adorable holiday cheese characters, then move on to constructing the magnificent edible Christmas tree itself. Each step is designed to be straightforward, ensuring a fun and rewarding experience for everyone involved.

Creating the Enchanting Santa, Rudolph, and Snowman Cheeses:

These individual cheese characters are the charming highlight of the board, adding personality and a touch of whimsy. Here’s how to bring them to life:

  • Prepare the Babybel Cheeses: Begin by carefully peeling eight Babybel cheese rounds completely to reveal their smooth, red surfaces – these will be the bodies for our Rudolphs and Snowmen. For Santa, peel four Babybel rounds partially, leaving the top half of the red wax intact. This creates the illusion of Santa’s cozy red hat, ensuring his head doesn’t get cold while he’s delivering snacks!
  • Add the Features:
    • Eyes and Buttons: Use mini chocolate chips to create expressive eyes for all your characters and cute buttons down the front of the snowmen. A tiny dot of ranch dressing can help them stick if needed.
    • Antlers and Arms: Break pretzel twists into smaller pieces to form the distinctive antlers for Rudolph. For the snowmen, use two small pretzel pieces for their twiggy arms, giving them a friendly, outstretched look.
    • Smiles and Scarves: Carefully pull apart Pull & Peel Twizzlers to create thin strands. Shape these into cheerful smiles for all characters and wrap them around the base of the snowman’s head to form colorful scarves. Younger children might need a little assistance with this step to get the shapes just right.
    • Rudolph’s Nose: Place a vibrant red M&M squarely in the center of each Rudolph’s face to give him his iconic glowing nose.
    • Santa’s Hat and Beard: For Santa, press small mini marshmallows onto the top edge of the partially peeled wax for the fluffy trim of his hat, and then arrange a few more marshmallows below his face to form a soft, snowy beard. The cuteness factor is off the charts with these little characters!

Assembling and Decorating Your Edible Christmas Tree

Once your charming cheese characters are complete, it’s time to build the magnificent centerpiece of your board: the Christmas tree! This step is where the board truly comes to life, layering different textures and colors to create a visually stunning and incredibly tempting holiday display.

Constructing the Christmas Tree:

  • The Tree Trunk: Begin by laying 10 pretzel dipping sticks vertically in the middle of your board, positioned near the bottom edge. These sturdy pretzels will form the rustic and delicious trunk of your Christmas tree.
  • Building the Layers: Next, you’ll create the main body of the tree by building horizontal layers. Start with two horizontal rows of crisp broccoli florets, forming the lush green base. Follow this with two horizontal layers of savory Colby jack cheese cubes, adding a pleasant contrast in color and texture. Then, add two more horizontal layers of vibrant pepperoni slices. Finally, use pita triangle crackers to form the pointed top of the tree, giving it a classic Christmas tree silhouette.
  • The Star Topper: No Christmas tree is complete without a star! Top your edible tree with a small star-shaped serving bowl, generously filled with creamy ranch dressing. This acts as both the decorative star and a delicious dip for all the wonderful components on your board. If you don’t have a star-shaped bowl, don’t worry! Simply cut several thick slices of cheese using a star-shaped cookie cutter, stack a few of these cheesy stars together, and place them proudly atop your snack tree for a charming alternative.

Filling the Festive Landscape:

Now that your tree is built, it’s time to fill in the remaining space on your board with an array of complementary snacks, creating a bountiful and visually appealing holiday scene. This is where you can truly let your creativity shine and ensure there’s something for everyone.

  • Cheesy Ornaments: To add delightful “ornaments” and fill in any empty spaces, arrange Horizon Organic cheese shape stars around the upper sections of the board. You can also place an additional bowl of these cheesy stars on the side for easy access. Alternatively, use white cheddar cracker cuts, shaped with your mini star cutter, for an equally charming effect.
  • Holiday Crackers: Incorporate festive Goldfish holiday shapes, specifically the tree and stocking designs, by scattering some directly on the board and placing others in a small bowl to the side. These add another layer of fun and color to your holiday tableau.
  • Snowy Base: Complete your enchanting holiday scene with a dusting of fluffy popcorn. Arrange it at the bottom of the board, creating the perfect “snow” effect around the base of your Christmas tree. This adds a light, airy texture and a classic snack element.
