- Reduce mixer speed to low. Add the room temperature milk/heavy cream and pure vanilla extract. Beat until just combined, then increase speed to medium-high and beat for an additional 3-5 minutes until the frosting is incredibly creamy, light, and perfectly spreadable.
- Adjust consistency as needed: If the frosting is too thick, add more milk/cream (1/2 to 1 tsp at a time) and beat until desired creaminess. If too thin, add more sifted powdered sugar (1-2 tbsp at a time) and beat until desired thickness.
- Immediately pipe or spread the finished buttercream frosting over your completely cooled cakes, cupcakes, or other baked goods.
