Tips for Perfect Baked Banana Donuts Every Time
- Use Ripe Bananas: The riper your bananas, the sweeter and more flavorful your donuts will be. Look for bananas with plenty of brown spots on their skins.
- Don’t Overmix: Just like with muffins or banana bread, overmixing the batter can lead to tough donuts. Mix until the wet and dry ingredients are just combined.
- Piping Bag Trick: Using a resealable plastic bag with a snipped corner makes filling the donut pan incredibly easy and mess-free.
- Even Baking: If you only have one donut pan, make sure to bake in batches to ensure even cooking and prevent overcrowding.
- Cooling is Key: Allow the donuts to cool slightly in the pan before transferring them to a wire rack. This helps them firm up and prevents them from breaking.
- Glaze Consistency: Adjust the glaze thickness by adding a little more powdered sugar for a thicker coating, or a tiny splash of milk for a thinner, more pourable consistency.
Enjoy every delightful bite of these homemade baked banana donuts, knowing you’ve created a wonderful treat with love and care!

Description
Yummy Baked Banana Donuts with a Maple Glaze drizzled with a little chocolate for a quick and fun breakfast or snack.
Ingredients
- Donuts:
- 1 cup Gold Medal® Better for Bread™ flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup canola oil
- 1/4 cup buttermilk or whole milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 large bananas, mashed
- Glaze:
- 1 tablespoon butter, melted
- 1/3 cup maple syrup
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
- Chocolate Drizzle:
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425°F. Spray a donut pan with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, oil, buttermilk and vanilla. Stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined. Fold in the mashed bananas.
- Place batter in a large resealable plastic bag and snip off one of the corners. Pipe batter into greased donut pan, filling each ring about 2/3 full. If you have two pans, you could go ahead and use all of the batter at once. If not, you will need to bake the donuts in two batches.
- Bake for 7-9 minutes or until donuts are set and spring back up when touched. Let cool in pan 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack.
- While donuts are cooling, prepare the glaze. In a medium microwavable bowl, melt the butter then whisk in the remaining ingredients until thick and smooth. Add additional powdered sugar to thicken it or a little milk to thin it out.
- For the chocolate drizzle, melt the chocolate chips and butter in a small microwave-safe bowl until almost melted, about 1 minute. Remove from microwave and stir until completely melted.
- Let chocolate set while you dip the tops of each donut in the maple glaze. I dip mine a few times to get a thick glaze over the top and sides of each donut. Place glaze-side up on a wire rack or baking sheet to let glaze set.
- Spoon chocolate mixture into a small resealable plastic bag and snip one of the corners. Drizzle chocolate over the top of each glazed donut.
- For a fun variation, dip half of the donuts in the melted chocolate glaze and immediately garnish with fun toppings such as sprinkles or nuts.
