Essential Ingredients for Your Santa Sweets Board

Creating this festive Santa Sweets Board is surprisingly straightforward, thanks to a carefully selected list of ingredients that balance freshness with classic holiday indulgence. Here’s a detailed look at what you’ll need to bring Santa’s cheerful face to life on your dessert platter:

  • Vanilla Frosting (16 ounce container): This forms Santa’s rosy cheeks and provides the sticky base for his facial features. Its creamy texture and sweet flavor make it an irresistible dip for cookies and fruit. Consider using a good quality store-bought frosting for ease, or homemade for an extra touch.
  • Blackberries (1 cup): These dark, juicy berries are perfect for Santa’s eyes, offering a striking contrast against the white frosting. Their firm texture also makes them ideal for outlining his belt.
  • Raspberries (1 cup): With their vibrant red hue and delicate texture, raspberries are the ideal choice for Santa’s iconic red nose and his jolly smile. Their small size allows for precise placement, adding charming detail to his face.
  • Strawberries (30, stems removed): The natural conical shape and bright red color of strawberries make them indispensable for forming Santa’s classic pointed hat. Removing the stems ensures a clean look and easy consumption.
  • Regular Size Marshmallows (30): These fluffy, white morsels are the secret to Santa’s voluminous beard and the soft pom-pom on his hat. Their varying sizes allow for dimension and realism.
  • Mini Marshmallows (2 cups): Complementing the regular marshmallows, the mini versions add delightful texture and fill in gaps, creating a truly luxurious, fluffy beard and delicate eyebrows for Santa.
  • Gingerbread People Cookies (8): No Christmas dessert board is complete without classic gingerbread! These spiced cookies add a traditional holiday flavor and a fun, whimsical element to the board.
  • Mini Tree-Shaped Sugar Cookies (20): These small, festive cookies add a playful touch of greenery and sweetness around Santa’s face, enhancing the overall Christmas theme.
  • Green Grapes (3 cups): Providing a refreshing counterpoint to the sweetness, green grapes fill in the remaining spaces on the board, adding a pop of color and a healthy option for guests to enjoy.
  • Rectangular Rimmed Wood Board or Tray (about 18” x 12”): The foundation of your edible artwork. A rimmed board helps contain all the delicious ingredients and provides a sturdy base for arrangement.
  • Round Rimmed Plate (about 8” in diameter): This plate will serve as the canvas for Santa’s face, making it easier to define his features and create a smooth, appealing base.

With these simple yet impactful ingredients, you’re well on your way to assembling a Santa Sweets Board that will be the talk of your holiday gathering!

How to Assemble Your Stunning Santa Sweets Board: A Step-by-Step Guide

Creating your Santa Sweets Board is a fun and creative process, perfect for getting into the holiday spirit. Follow these simple steps to bring Santa’s jolly face to life on your dessert platter:

  1. Prepare Santa’s Face Base: Begin by evenly spreading the vanilla frosting onto the round plate, ensuring it covers the surface smoothly. This will form the foundation for Santa’s face. Carefully place this frosting-covered plate in the center of your larger rectangular wood board.
  2. Add Santa’s Features: For Santa’s eyes, gently press two large blackberries onto the frosting. Position a single raspberry just below and between the eyes for his cheerful nose. To create Santa’s iconic smile, arrange four raspberries in an arc below his nose.
  3. Form Santa’s Hat: Start arranging the strawberries, beginning from the top edge of the round plate and extending upwards towards the top-right corner of the board. Overlap them slightly to create the tapered shape of Santa’s hat. Place a single regular marshmallow at the very tip-top of the hat to act as the fluffy pom-pom.
  4. Complete the Hat’s Brim: To finish Santa’s hat, add a distinct line of five regular marshmallows along the top edge of the round plate, directly beneath the strawberries. This forms the soft, white brim of his hat.
  5. Craft Santa’s Beard, Mustache, and Eyebrows: This is where Santa’s famous fluff comes to life! Arrange the remaining regular marshmallows, interspersing them with mini marshmallows, to form Santa’s full, flowing beard, a prominent mustache above his smile, and gentle eyebrows above his blackberry eyes. Make sure to leave a clear space at the bottom of the board for his belt.
  6. Create Santa’s Belt: Along the bottom edge of your rectangular board, arrange the remaining blackberries in a straight line to form Santa’s belt. In the very center of this blackberry belt, place two raspberries side-by-side to act as his belt buckle.
  7. Fill in the Cheeks: Divide the remaining raspberries into two portions. Place one portion on each side of Santa’s marshmallow beard, filling in the space from the blackberry belt up to about a third of the way up the board. These represent his rosy, full cheeks.
  8. Add Gingerbread Friends: Arrange four gingerbread people cookies on either side of Santa’s face. Place them just above the raspberry cheeks, adding a whimsical touch to the board.
  9. Place Mini Tree Cookies: Divide your mini tree-shaped sugar cookies. Arrange half on one side of Santa’s hat and the other half on the opposite side, positioning them just above the gingerbread people cookies for a balanced, festive look.
  10. Garnish with Green Grapes: To complete your masterpiece, fill in the top third of the board, around Santa’s hat and behind the tree cookies, with the fresh green grapes. This adds a lovely pop of color and a refreshing element.
  11. Ho! Ho! Enjoy!: Step back and admire your magnificent Santa Sweets Board! It’s now ready to be presented and devoured by delighted guests.
